The Underwater Caves and Shipwrecks are new features added in the March 7, 2026 update (v0.023) of VEIN.
This guide covers their locations, how to explore them, and the items you can obtain from these underwater areas.
Underwater Cave & Shipwreck Locations
When searching for these locations, the compass UI at the top of the screen is very helpful.
The △ icon indicates an unexplored location nearby, while the filled ▲ icon indicates a location that has already been explored.
By standing near the water and checking the markers on the compass, you can determine the direction of underwater caves and shipwrecks.
Underwater Area of Chazy Lake
A large lake located in the northern part of the map.
The markers indicate the locations of underwater exploration points in Chazy Lake.
There are two shipwrecks and one underwater cave in this area.
Underwater Area of Upper Chateaugay Lake
A lake located in the northwestern part of the map.
The markers indicate the locations of underwater exploration points in Upper Chateaugay Lake.
There are two shipwrecks and one underwater cave in this area.
How to Explore Underwater Caves and Shipwrecks
Stamina Recovery Underwater
Underwater, you cannot surface without stamina.
If there is a cliff in the direction you want to move, you can climb it by continuing to move toward the cliff. However, depending on the angle of the cliff, climbing may fail. In such cases, it is safer to recover stamina first and then press the Space key to surface.
Normally, stamina only recovers while standing still, but staying perfectly still underwater can be difficult.
However, stamina will still recover as long as your character is not actually moving, even if movement keys are being pressed. Because of this, you can recover stamina by continuing to move against a wall.
Items Needed for Exploration
Below is a list of essential items and useful equipment for underwater exploration.
Portable Air Tank & Rebreather
Required for maintaining oxygen underwater.
These can be found in containers on the piers around the lakes, so you usually do not need to prepare them in advance.
HazMat Suit
Provides 100% waterproof protection, preventing electronic devices from breaking during underwater exploration.
This allows you to use your phone underwater to check the compass and map.
Hyperbaric Welder
Required to loot shipwrecks.
It is believed to spawn in locations where industrial tools can be found.
I obtained one at a workshop southeast of the prison.
Headlamp or Lantern
Used as a light source inside underwater caves.
If you are wearing a HazMat Suit, even non-waterproof lights will work safely underwater.
Pickaxe
Used to mine crystals inside underwater caves.
Items Obtainable from Underwater Exploration
Underwater Caves
Items found in underwater caves mainly include Crystal and the new weapon Bladed Crystal.
There are no containers or lootable objects placed inside these caves, so the main purpose of exploring them is to mine crystal nodes.
The new weapon Bladed Crystal can be obtained randomly while mining crystals with a pickaxe.
It is a surprisingly powerful weapon, with 40 damage and 73 DPS. However, it has very low durability. Based on testing, the weapon breaks after about 22 attacks.
Because it cannot be repaired, the Bladed Crystal is best considered a disposable high-damage weapon rather than a permanent melee option.
Shipwrecks
Shipwrecks can contain items such as Advanced Tech Scrap and other materials.
