How to Level Mechanical Skill

Based on my testing, Mechanical Skill XP can be gained from crafting or building 97 different items.
In this section, I compare factors such as XP gained, level requirements, and material costs for each method, and highlight a few of the most efficient leveling options.

Easy Leveling Method (Early Game)

  • Wood Scrap Door (Solid)
    • XP: 687 per build
    • No level requirement; available from early game
    • Crafting Metal Brackets (required material) also grants XP
    • Requires fewer materials than other scrap wood structures, resulting in high XP efficiency
    • Grants 550 Crafting XP and 550 Building XP when constructed
  • Metal Brackets Production
    • XP: 125 per item
    • No level requirement; available from early game
    • Requires only 1 Iron Scrap, making it easy to manage
    • Can be crafted while doing other base tasks (hands-free)
    • Running multiple workbenches significantly improves time efficiency
    • Grants 100 Crafting XP and 100 Building XP per craft

Recommended Leveling Method (Mid to Late Game)

The following four methods are recommended. Choose based on your level requirements and available materials:

  • High-Grade Aluminum Foil
    • XP: 953 per item
    • Requires Building Lv60
    • Requires a Furnace
    • Materials are relatively easy to obtain (Aluminum Ingots only)
    • Grants 763 Crafting XP and 763 Electrical XP
  • Advanced Electronic Components
    • XP: 1907 per item
    • Requires Crafting Lv50
    • Grants 1526 Crafting XP and 1526 Electrical XP
  • Scrap Metal Pipe → Pull-Up Bar
    • XP: 1907 + 3491 = 5398 total
    • Requires Building Lv65, Strength Lv25, Crafting Lv60
    • Requires a Furnace
    • Grants Crafting and Building XP
  • Wall-Mounted Camera
    • XP: 6761 per build
    • Requires Building Lv80, Electrical Lv75, Mechanical Lv80
    • Requires Advanced Electronic Scrap and Crystals (underwater exploration needed)
    • Relatively low material cost
    • Grants Building and Electrical XP

Recommendation

Only the “Bank It” perk is recommended.
As of v0.023, there are no perks that provide Mechanical-specific effects. Since this skill is relatively easy to level, perks that boost skill levels or XP gain are generally not worth taking.

Skill Evaluation & Priority

Low priority.
While this skill is required for crafting and building, it does not need to be actively leveled. As of v0.023, there are no Mechanical-specific perks, and its level will naturally increase through normal base construction.
