The Improved Pickaxe is particularly rare. It is highly recommended to obtain one, as it is required not only for efficient mining but also for breaking destructible walls to access deeper areas in caves.

Tool Categories and Tier Mechanics

In the world of VEIN, tools are classified into three main categories:

Crafting Tools: Used for building, dismantling, and vehicle maintenance.
Gathering Tools: Used for logging wood, mining ore, and digging soil.
Cooking Utensils: Used for cooking at stoves.

You can check an item’s “Usage” in the item description. Some items possess multiple usages.

Details of the Three Tool Classifications

Tools in VEIN are classified into three groups based on their specific “Usages.” These usages include the following:

① Crafting & Maintenance Usages (10 Types Total)

Used primarily for crafting, removing vehicle parts, and repairing structures.

“Higher Tiers Include Lower Usages”

A crucial mechanic in VEIN is that higher-tier tools possess the usages of lower-tier tools. For example, while “Scissors (Basic Cutting)” are needed to dismantle paper, having “Hydraulic Cutters (Hydraulic Cutting)” allows you to do the same task without needing scissors. Collecting all top-tier tools ensures you are prepared for any situation while minimizing inventory weight. Make sure to check your inventory so you don’t carry duplicate lower-tier items unnecessarily.

Detailed Location Guide

Prison (Clinton Correctional Facility)

The workshop in the southeast area contains many containers (Tool Chests), which have a good chance of spawning high-end tools, including Hydraulic variants.

Additionally, the Industrial Welder, Nailgun, and Soldering Iron are directly placed in the basement.

**Gate:** Use the red button in the gatehouse near the entrance to open the main gates.

**Southeastern Workshop: High-end crafting tools, including hydraulic variants, can be obtained from red tool chests and other containers here.**

**Route to Basement:** Block C 2F → Block D 2F → Staircase at the northeast corner.

Saranac Central School

In the basement power supply room, the Industrial Welder, Nailgun, and Powered Drill are placed as static spawns.

**Entrance:** Use the southern basement entrance for quick access to the tool room.

Lyon Mtn. Quarantine Center

A large-scale medical facility located on Lyon Mountain. There is a workshop in the building on the south side of the facility, where you can obtain top-tier crafting tools, including hydraulic variants.

Ambient Energy Powerhouse

A power plant located in Dannemora. The interior of the large building houses numerous containers where top-tier tools, including hydraulic variants, can be found.

Although the building appears large at first glance, its internal layout is simple, so it’s easy to navigate and can be explored quickly.

The interior has a multi-level layout, with containers such as tool chests placed throughout.

Mass Dump Site A1 (Large Disposal Site)

One of the few locations where the Improved Pickaxe is guaranteed to spawn.

The area is marked by body bags and abandoned military crates.

Look for the **tall storage silo** on the outer edge.

Climb the stairs attached to the silo; the pickaxe is on a barrel.

Garden Shed

Small sheds attached to residential houses across the world. The following 3 items are commonly found here:

Mini-Sledge, Adjustable Wrench, Shovel.
- These are excellent for early-game progression and often contain seeds and other materials.(Note: There is no direct correlation between the shed’s exterior and its contents; however, they are common enough to find within a few tries.)
