Build Notes

Must-haves are Parry and Radiant Retribution.

Radiant Retribution has a quick startup and a wide hitbox, making it easy to land. Its cooldown is only 10 seconds, so you can use it frequently. Parry negates attacks and enables counters; its follow-ups also help close the gap on ranged opponents.

For the third Greatsword skill, pick from the three ranged options. Default pick: Thorn Guide.

You can swap Thorn Guide for Sprinting Slash or Withering Mark, but Thorn Guide offers the best overall mix of on-hit reward, positioning, range, and consistency.

Use Javelin Thrust in the Polearm & Shield slot. It hits at range and lets you chase the target after it connects.

Comparing the three ranged skills

The table below compares the three ranged Greatsword skills. For cooldown efficiency alone, Sprinting Slash comes out ahead.

SkillRangeCDDamage (with combo)Ease of landing
Thorn Guide Thorn Guide Longest 16s ★★★★★ Slow startup, but the tell is subtle
Withering Mark Withering Mark Medium 12s ★★☆☆☆ Wide horizontal hitbox. Flashy tell; easier to dodge
Sprinting Slash Sprinting Slash Shortest 12s ★★★★☆ Fast startup and hard to react to, but still awkward to land

Build Identity

Radiant Retribution and Parry apply pressure. Once you gain the advantage, Thorn Guide and Javelin Thrust catch fleeing opponents and prevent them from kiting.

Skill Usage

Radiant Retribution

Radiant Retribution

A fast three-hit sequence with a wide hitbox, making it a strong opener. Its cooldown is 10 seconds. The Long Range talent extends its travel distance, while Whiplash lets the third hit clear Wither.

Parry

Parry

Negates up to 5 frontal hits. A successful Parry unlocks two follow-ups, discourages opponents from attacking freely, and can close the distance. Its cooldown is 15 seconds. Tactical Prep reduces the cooldown to 10 seconds after a successful Parry, while Unstoppable adds Super Armor to the counter. Take both.

Thorn Guide

Thorn Guide

Pulls in one distant enemy and creates a strong opening for follow-up attacks. Its long range is useful against opponents who kite while healing. The startup is not especially fast, but the animation is fairly subtle. Joint Pierce slows pulled targets and reduces their dodge distance. Grappling Hook also lets you use the skill as an escape.

Javelin Thrust

Javelin Thrust

After landing the skill, you can leap to the target and use follow-up attacks. The jumping heavy attack (shield bash) is strong but often misses due to lag, so normal follow-ups are more reliable. With Rising Morale from the Core Style tree, you can continue the chase with Charged Dash.
